Have you ever been in a room with a friend and forgot to pay attention to her? You are aware she is talking, but you are not listening. Perhaps you are staring over her shoulder out the window and pondering the contents of the package that was just delivered to your neighbor across the street. At some point or another, we have all been guilty of this kind of behavior. Perhaps more often than we even realize. In fact, it is a daily struggle for me. It is a struggle not to look over the tiny heads within my home and out into the world. I tend to think of sharing the gospel as something that is to be done "out in the world". When I think of evangelism I think of street evangelism. I am guilty of forgetting my responsibility to the little blessings God has given me. Going out and sharing the gospel is vital and mandatory in the life of every believer, but don't forget to share it within your home as well! My two little boys' souls are just as depraved and desperate for the gospel as anyone else with whom I could share. There will be seasons in your life, especially if you have young children, in which most of your days are spent at home. You do the laundry, cook, clean, and make sure everyone has their nap. Do not let yourself believe that those things are worthless. As wives and mothers, we have been called to manage our homes. As a stay-at-home mom I do not have as many opportunites to share the gospel with strangers as many do. And on days when I do venture out, it can be quite a challenge to have a meaningful conversation with two little boys in tow. At times I have found this discouraging and felt that I am being disobedient by not meeting some imaginary gospel-sharing quota that I had set for myself. But I have found much freedom in realizing that my foremost priority is to be sharing the gospel within my home. That is...

The second half of a sermon preached by Spurgeon on Lord's-day Morning, March 24th, 1866. He addressed two types of people in the sermon. The first group he called "THOSE WHO ARE AVOWEDLY DISOBEDIENT TO GOD" and the second group he called "THE DECEPTIVELY SUBMISSIVE." This is well worth the read. I pray it challenge you. Here is the text of his sermon. "But what think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to day in my vineyard. He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented, and went. And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not. Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you. For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him."—Matthew 21:28-32. Bear with me a little time while I speak to the second character, THE DECEPTIVELY SUBMISSIVE, by far the most numerous everywhere in England, probably the most numerous in this assembly. Oh! you, my own regular hearers, you who have heard my voice these thirteen years many of you are in this class. You have said to the Great Father, "I go, sir!" but you have not gone. Let me sorrowfully sketch your portraits: you have regularly frequented a place of worship, and you would shudder to waste a single Sunday in an excursion, or in any form of Sabbath breaking. Outwardly you have said," I go, sir." When the hymn is given out, you stand up and sing, and yet you do not sing with the heart. When I say, "Let us pray!" you cover your faces, but you do not pray with real prayer. You utter a polite, respectful...

I Have My Church

While sharing the gospel and passing out gospel tracts, what would you say to someone that says, “I have my church”? They don’t profess Christ.   They do not even call themselves a Christian or claim to be born again or say, “I’m saved”. They just say “I have my church” and walk away. What does that mean? What do you think they were meaning by that statement? I’ve never heard this statement before but last night (Oct. 14th, 2011) I heard from three different people.   I am overwhelmed by it. If you profess to be a Christian, what are you really professing- Christ or your church? It is an important question and it carries with it eternal implications. When you stand before God and give an account for your whole life, will you say the words “I had my church” as your defense? It doesn’t make sense yet is this not essentially what these people were saying to me as I handed them a tract? So many people profess to be “Christians” but they don’t actually profess Christ. They are not standing on Christ as their righteousness. They are standing on their own righteousness whether it be good deeds they have done, like repeating the sinner's prayer after someone, or that they go to church. Going to church will not save you.   Only Christ can.   Standing before the Holy Judge one day you will realize what a flimsy defense it is to say, "But I went to church.".   Jesus’ words are ringing in my head, “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many.” -Matthew 7:13 Thankfully, I was able to have a conversation with one of the ladies that made this statement. Her name is Cheryl. Cheryl was on our town square with her family. She shared with me that her son is a minister and knows my pastor. Then she told me that her grandchildren were visiting from Utah, which launched us into a discussion about Mormons. Cheryl has a high...

Saturday May 7th we spent the day at Briscoe Park evangelizing during the Snellville Days festival. We had a booth there so we were able to reach a lot of people in a short amount of time. The 104.7 The Fish booth was two spots down from us. They were playing the radio over loud speakers and had a few tables with material setup and a few workers at the booth. I noticed, however, every kid that walked away from the booth with a swirly painting in their hand (dozens each hour doing this) never heard the gospel. I was standing at our booth handing out tracts and one of the workers walked by. I went to hand him a gospel tract and our conversation went like this: He said, "No thanks, I've already gotten one." I then asked him, "Are you guys sharing the gospel with those kids?" He replied with a long, slow, bewildered response, "Nooo." I then said, "Hmm. Don't you need to think about what you're doing?" He said again with that same tone, "Oooo.K." as if I were some crazy man. I then proceeded to say, "Those kids don't need paint they need the gospel!" He proceeded to walk away with no response and continued to share the gospel of amazing paint with each eager child. I was (and still am) pretty outraged. Why you ask? Well, in the words of a dear brother: THE HOUSE IS COMING DOWN. Those kids aren't at peace with God. They are little rebels with a whole seed-bed of sin germinating in their heart - growing each day until at once it is full bloom and apparent to everyone. In the words of a famous preacher, "Your child without evil. You without eyes, you mean!" Their house is on fire and 104.7 The Fish wants to give them a cute little painting to hang on their wall while they burn. This is treachery to the cause of Christ. Let's call it what it is and quit playing nice with things of eternal significance - especially the souls of men. So... Dear 104.7, it turns...

Psalm 40:9-10 I have told the glad news of deliverancein the great congregation;behold, I have not restrained my lips,as you know, O Lord. I have not hidden your deliverance within my heart;I have spoken of your faithfulness and your salvation;I have not concealed your steadfast love and your faithfulnessfrom the great congregation. "If we have any humanity in us, seeing men going to perdition, …ought we not be moved by pity, to rescue the poor souls from hell, and teach them the way of salvation?…nothing could be more inconsistent with the nature of faith than that deadness which would lead a man to disregard his brethren, and to keep the light of knowledge choked up within his own breast. When we know God to be our Father, should we not desire that he be known as such by all? And if we do not have this passion, that all creatures do him homage, is it not a sign that his glory means little to us?" -John Calvin...

One Christian Man - 2 Corinthians 11:21-27 "...But whatever anyone else dares to boast of—I am speaking as a fool—I also dare to boast of that. Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they offspring of Abraham? So am I. Are they servants of Christ? I am a better one—I am talking like a madman—with far greater labors, far more imprisonments, with countless beatings, and often near death. Five times I received at the hands of the Jews the forty lashes less one. Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I was stoned. Three times I was shipwrecked; a night and a day I was adrift at sea; on frequent journeys, in danger from rivers, danger from robbers, danger from my own people, danger from Gentiles, danger in the city, danger in the wilderness, danger at sea, danger from false brothers; in toil and hardship, through many a sleepless night, in hunger and thirst, often without food, in cold and exposure." The Modern Church - 2 Americans 11:21-27 "...But whatever anyone else dares to boast of—We speaking as wise—we also dare to boast of that. Are they Americans? So are we. Are they born in a professing Christian land? So are we. Was their daddy a preacher? So was ours. Are they part of "40 Days of Purpose"? We are better ones—we are talking like a madman—with a lot of activity but no power in the culture, no imprisonments, with countless UFC fight nights at the youth lock in, and secure in life. Five times I received at the hands of the Starbucks dude in the church coffee shop a extra hot latte. Three times I had to sit somewhere other than "my" seat in the auditorium. Once I parked at the back of the parking lot. Three times I was confused about the word justification, but then again that's all the times the pastor speaker mentioned it this year; a night and a day I was up cleaning cups, plates, glitter and beach balls after the church missions conference; on frequent mission trips but never preaching the gospel, in comfort from rivers, comfort from robbers, comfort...

Romans 10:14-15 How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” Some Christians feet are plain ugly. Many take the most humble part of their body and dress it up with nice shoes, but scripture says the way you do it is by preaching the good news....

A man is choking, but I'm not a doctor... A kid is drowning, but I'm not a life guard... A friend is about to kill himself, but I'm not a counselor... A sinner is headed for eternal hell, but I'm not an evangelist... If you would do something about the first three situations but nothing about the last then you are sinning and do not understand the gospel. Repent and be restored....

We had a great night tonight doing evangelism in the local town I live in. Justin, Chad, Allan, Eric, Brad, his wife Cynthia, their children Kayla and Stewart joined Stephanie and I to share Christ with anyone who would listen. God has so richly heard my prayers of bringing other Christians our way to join arm in arm to reach the lost with the gospel. I am truly thankful for these brothers and sisters. Fellowship in the gospel is true fellowship indeed. It is my prayer that God will allow this group to continue to do ministry together and grow in Christ together while reaching the lost. I wanted to share an encounter I had tonight with one of the very first people I talked to. Although this has happened to me on just about every occasion that I've shared the gospel, I just wanted to share a few thoughts tonight. I'll try to recount as much as I can. I walked up to a guy sitting down outside the ice cream shop at the town square. I reached out my had with a tract and said, "Hey man, I care about you. It's [the tract] got a Christian message on it." He looked at me with this look of disdain and said, "Oh, I am a Christian. I don't need that. I am a pastor at the church over there." I smiled, knowing that we live in an area of religious hypocrisy, and said, "Great. When's the last time you shared the gospel with someone." He said, "I let my life speak and I think your way is a bit heavy handed." [Mind you that all I was doing was handing tracts out. I had not preached or anything. He was the first person I talked to that night.] I could tell he was visibly angry as his countenance dropped and his face began to quiver with this mad, nervousness. I then asked him, "So, what does scripture say about how we share the gospel? What did the Apostles do? What did Jesus do? When was the last time you verbally...

Bummed out right now at the vast lengths many Christians will go to in explaining away their duty to share the gospel with strangers. Hell and the utter depravity and wickedness of the human soul must not be real to them; they just must not believe the Bible. Neither must the grace they so zealously proclaim as marvelous. I can see no other reason. Most don't share the gospel with strangers because the gospel they have isn't worth sharing. Felt like giving up there for a second.... God help us....

Are You Acting Like A Pharisee?

"You may know the truth of the doctrine, but you do not know the doctrine in truth if it makes you gaze on the wrath to come without emotions of pity for immortal souls." Charles Spurgeon I’ve had people often tell me, “Do as I say, not as I do.” I have often pondered that and I have come to the conclusion that anyone who says that has a contradiction of belief and practice. What they are truly saying is, “I know what is right, but I want to follow what my own heart says, so that justifies my actions and somehow by telling you to do what is right that also helps me justify my actions.” What a contradiction! For they preach but do not practice. Jesus said in Matthew 23:1-3, “Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples, “The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses\' seat, so practice and observe whatever they tell you—but not what they do. For they preach, but do not practice.” I also know men who are so very careful and precise in their theology as to walk as it were on eggshells with every word of their doctrine to make sure they are in line with God’s word. I am one of them. I know men who debate singular meanings of one word for hours, even using the original languages and definitions, in an attempt to get a right understanding of truly what God’s word is saying. I am one of them. I know men who exhort that the Gospel is the only means by which men can be saved and they would affirm in their heart that it is every Christians duty to preach the Gospel to all creation (Mark 16:15). I am one of them. Here is what I don’t understand. If you, as a Christian, care so much about right doctrine as to spend hours pouring over God’s word, over every “jot and tittle” as to make a surety of your belief as to exactly what the Gospel is in its content and you neglect intentionally and regularly going...
